HCHC Celebrates OXI Day
learn moreOur Hellenic College Holy Cross community celebrated Oxi Day with two very different but equally notable events during the week leading up to October 28, the day itself. Oxi Day, observed throughout Greece, Cyprus, and the worldwide Greek diaspora, commemorates Greece's rejection on October 28, 1940, of Italy's ultimatum that Axis forces be allowed to enter Greek territory or else face war. Prime Minister Metaxas responded with a single word: "Oxi" ("No"). OTSA Holds Annual Meeting at HCHC
learn moreThe Orthodox Theological Society in America held its annual meeting on our campus from Thursday, October 18, until Saturday, October 20. The theme for this year's gathering was "Liturgy and the Arts." The Thursday afternoon session featured presentations on "Perceiving Beauty: Architecture, Drama, and Philosophy." The evening's faculty panel was moderated by Rev. Dr. Philip Zymaris, Assistant Professor of Liturgics at Holy Cross, and focused on the question of "What is the place, and what is the function, of Sacred Arts in an Orthodox Theological School?" Admissions Fall Open House a Great Success
learn moreA record number of prospective students from as far away as Arizona and Florida traveled to our campus on Saturday, October 13, for the annual Fall Open House hosted by the Office of Admissions. The visitors, many of whom came with parents or friends, mingled informally with faculty and staff over a continental breakfast before being welcomed officially by Rev. Fr. HCHC Hosts National OISM Retreat
learn moreThe HCHC chapter of the Orthodox Inter-Seminary Movement hosted the organization's national retreat September 28-30. The retreat drew participants from St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary, Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary, St. Tikhon's Orthodox Theological Seminary, and Christ the Saviour Seminary, as well as Holy Cross. More than fifty people from many Orthodox jurisdictions attended a broad range of programs connected to the theme of the retreat: "Witnesses of the Gospel Today: Vocation and Martyrdom of Orthodox Christian Leaders in the World."
